During the spring of 2025, Hellenic record label Eat Metal Records has come out not with one, but with three Greek heavy metal releases that have all hit the mark, both musically and aesthetically.
Part of this trifecta is Stygians Path’s debut album , that goes by the name The Lorekeeper. Slightly less aggressive and coarse than its brother releases, Lorekeeper is a more eloquent take on Hellenic epic metal tradition.
The album’s sound, as well as the take on vocals, bear many resemblance’s to the Athenian epic metal scene of the late 90s and early 2000’s. The band succeeds in maintaining the sound of that era tastefully, without feeling like a rip – off.
Another big factor in Stygian Path’s music is their evident admiration for Blind Guardian. The album is rife with moments inspired by the German power metal legends. The combination of Greek epic metal elements with the guardianic take on European power metal makes for a very enjoyable an interesting listen, especially if the record is given the time it deserves.
An honorable mention to the Lorekeeper’s quieter moments is also in order. Tracks like the Wanderer offer a respite from the unyielding guitar work, whilst feeling like a natural part of the sonic journey the band takes you on through this record.
